Press Release for Sue’s Fingerprint
Author aims to deliver realistic science fiction novel for young adults
Andrew D. Carlson avoids extraterrestrial worlds and fairytale creatures in “Sue’s Fingerprint”
LOS ANGELES – Author Andrew D. Carlson believes that teenaged readers want an exciting story free of vampires and werewolves, and he looks to give them just that with his novel of a potential alien cloning disaster in “Sue’s Fingerprint” (ISBN 0615456227).
When a mysterious gel is discovered throughout the United States, Director of Homeland Security Ted Stevens begins to investigate. He enlists the help of government scientists to figure out the chemical components of the goo, and they discover that the substance sent to Earth clones animals—and humans.
Eleven people cloned from the goo have been detected. Sue is one of them. She is held by Ted on an abandoned military base with the other clones. When they receive a message, Sue feels she must deliver it and flees the base.
With a possible threat to citizens, Ted races to recover Sue. Along the way, he learns the clones’ message and begins to understand their true intentions. Wanting to know more about them, he collects samples for DNA fingerprint testing. The scientists must determine if the clones’ DNA matches the DNA of the people they originated from. If their fingerprints match, the clones will be released from the base, free to live their lives. If they don’t match, the clones will be forever imprisoned on the base as an assumed alien threat.
Carlson hopes teenaged readers will relate to the clones’ struggles to learn about themselves and the world around them. He hopes readers will understand the clones’ desire to live their lives in freedom. The scientific details about analytical testing and DNA provide a realistic story line for the characters to follow. Carlson wants readers to find “Sue’s Fingerprint” to be a feel-good story that shows actions should be taken based on facts, rather than irrational fears.
